Deborah Kerr

Deborah Kerr (rhymes with “star”) was an English movie actress who flourished in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s and was known for both sexiness and spirituality, intelligence and authenticity.

She has never had the recognition she deserves, in part because the parts she specialized in contained too much covert feminism and self-respect.

This page contains links to the two books I have written that concern her:

The Auto Biography of Deborah Carr, a journal of my life as a philosophy teacher, mother, and lesbian in my fortieth year (1980). Deborah Kerr makes appearances in my dreams and elsewhere. The still-in-progress Tenderly: Lesbian Meditations on Deborah Kerr is a memoir of the fifties about my growing up as the only lesbian in the world and a look back at some of Deborah Kerr’s films: what they meant to me when I first saw them, how I see them now, and thoughts on what it is to love a star.

This site also contains links to some YouTube videos, other fans’ assemblages that beautifully evokes Deborah Kerr’s character and her charm.

And, coming later, a collection of my favorites from my own collection of Deborah Kerr photos. With commentary.
